Old Website:

New Website:
Website Redesign Endurahealth
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
WEBSITE REDESIGN

http://endurahealth.ca

Objectives:
  • Update website messaging to re-position enduraHealth as a full service sports injury clinic with new chiro and physio services, not just massage therapy
  • Update design to mobile-friendly template
  • Budget = < $2k
  • Timeline = 4-6wks

Deliverable:
  • New website hosted on Weebly.com with a new look/feel, new main menu structure and revised page content
The original motivation of this project was to update the web site content to promote new service offerings and update the content on a few pages, however we quickly expanded the scope to also include a redesign to better reflect the enduraHealth brand using web design template that supported mobile browsers.

Our Approach

1. IA / New Website Map
After reviewing competitor and other similar sites and doing keyword research, we suggested a revised site map with an updated main menu and new pages to communicate the new full-service clinic offerings. To 'document' this, we created a new blank site on Weebly.com so the client could visually see/demo the revised main menu.

2. Content Writing
Once the new site map was approved, we copied content from the old site to the new site making a few edits here/there. Once the page copy was there, we trained the client on how to use the Weebly editor and they completed the remaining writing. Once all the pages were updated, we edited them slightly to optimize pages for keywords.

3. Rebuilt site using Weebly.com
To keep things simple (and under budget), we chose an existing Weebly design template and tweaked only slightly to incorporate existing brand colors. We sourced the sweet home page header image for free from http://unsplash.com

The Results

We were very happy to report that this project was completed in just under 4 weeks and right on budget.

From the client...
"SO HAPPY! I did a final review of the content and am SUPER HAPPY with everything! thank you for the awesome work you are doing.  i love it! this site is so easy to use!"

Next step is to launch a regular blogging program to keep website content fresh and related keyword dense. The client will be taking this on themselves, but we'll be checking in from time to time.

Facebook Advertising Campaign: Oktoberfest Run

Facebook Advertising Campaign

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
FACEBOOK ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN
http://reddeeroktoberfestrun.com
Objective:
Create a Facebook advertising campaign to promote an upcoming new race, the Red Deer Oktoberfest Run.

Goals:
  • drive traffic to event site (3%, 150 clicks)
  • race registrations (3%, 5 registrations)
  • min budget spent (i.e. $20)

Target Audience:
Calgary Marathon attendees

Our Approach
  1. Created 6 different ads with varying text blurbs / images
  2. Created custom audience: interests = marathon AND 24-55yrs AND living within 60km of Calgary
  3. Placement: mobile iOS ads only
  4. Campaign dates = marathon weekend only (Fri-Tue)
  5. Budget = $5/day

The Results
Picture
Lessons Learned
We didn't achieve stellar conversion at 0.46%, however I was pleased with the number of impressions and it did result in 3 race registrations (1% conversion), which is only 2 short of our goal.

The great thing about online advertising is that it is so easy to test different text blurb and/or images in ads and track which does best. After a few days, you can quickly tell which ad is the 'winner' and you can choose to dedicate more ad spend to it to maximize your ROI.

For the next marathon weekend, we'll copy this campaign using the winning image (above) but test different text blurbs and limit the campaign to just Fri-Sun.

EXPLAINER VIDEO
PROJECT MANAGEMENT

http://wastelogic.com

In full disclosure, this project is for an Uncle of ours who wanted to create a 'How it Works' type video to help explain his business process to potential new clients. Video production is not our core line of business, however Christine has managed many similar how it works video projects in the past for Fortune 500 clients.

In this case, we did not have a Fortune 500 budget, so we worked with a third party production house, MinuteVideos.com, and our role on the project was primarily providing project management. Once the video was completed, it was uploaded to YouTube account and embeded on the client's WordPress site.

Overall we were very impressed working with MinuteVideos.com. The base price for a 1min video is $600 then you can choose various upgrade options.

Run in the Buff Ultra Marathon

Run in the Buff Ultra Marathon
WEBSITE DESIGN
CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM,
MOBILE RESPONSIVE DESIGN,
ONLINE REGISTRATION

http://runinthebuff.com

This was a quick and easy project with a low budget. The website was created to support a new ultra marathon running event starting in 2016. One website destination for all event info that can be easily edited by the race director is a must for all race events, so using Weebly.com as the CMS was an obvious choice. The Weebly WYSIWYG editor is very easy to use and they have many design templates to choose from. Most of the time/effort "building" this site was pulling together the content, which is the most important part of any website.

Other key features of the website included:
  1. Integration with Online Registration System
Instead of building something from scratch, we used Eventbrite, a third party registration platform. Why reinvent the wheel right? We configured the system to 'pass on' registration fees to the registrants which makes it free for the race director which resulted in significant cost savings.

  2. Integration with Facebook Page
The race director already had a Facebook page and are using it to post updates and key information about the race. Including a feed on the website ties the two nicely together and gives the race director an easy way to post "latest news" on the site without having to log into the CMS.

  3. Volunteer Sign-up Form
We used the built-in form feature in Weebly which captures the basic info and emails the race director with each sign up. Closer to race day, they can log in and export all sign-ups into MS Excel.

We also purchased the domain and are working on phase II of the project: SEO and social media marketing. What good is a website if nobody visits it right? Stay tuned for updates.

Blitz Events: Race Results Platform

In addition to Caddell Designs, we are also partners in Blitz Events, a race management and timing company operated by Christine and her business partner Tricia Kawahara.

In addition to hosting the Blitz Snowshoe Fun Run, Blitz Duathlon and The Red Deer Oktoberfest Half Marathon, Blitz Events also provides race timing for other events such as the MEC Calgary Race Series.  Thus a slick mobile-friendly race results platform was needed.

Christine wanted something light and fast that would load quickly on participant's phones in real-time which meant it would need to integrate with Racetec, their existing scoring software.
The Solution:
The front-end is built with Angular 1 which parses simple text files containing race result data that is uploaded via FTP automatically via Racetec.

The first iteration we noticed some lag issues and spent time tuning the app for performance. Here are some of the tricks we used for optimizing:
  • One way binding
  • Infinite scrolling
  • Lowering watches where possible

ThinkMX: Motocross Fitness

This is a pet project started long ago as part of a 'create an online business' phase. My husband is passionate about motorcross riding and fitness, so we teamed up with our personal trainer cousins Tricia and Miki Kawahara to put together some training programs and sell them online.

How successful has it been? There's been a few sales, but we're obviously not living on an island that we bought with our millions of dollars of revenue. Motocross fitness is a niche market, but also full-time jobs and two children under 5 put this project on the side burner for the last few years.

Of course Kevin (the developer in our duo), has been tinkering on Phase II of this web application for some time, implementing a new interface and all the latest greatest mobile friendly UI elements. Recently I've gotten involved to 'get the new site live already!' and we've been having some really good discussions about what is the MVP (minimum viable product).

So really this post is to motivate both of us to get Phase II live so we can update this post with new screenshots. :D
